TOUR ITINERARY

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your guesthouse at around 9:00 am and escort you to your chosen transport—either a traditional becak (local taxi) or a motorbike.

You’ll head out of Bukit Lawang into the peaceful countryside to explore small traditional villages. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of rice fields with Gunung Leuser National Park as a beautiful backdrop. Feel free to ask your driver to stop if you’d like to watch local farmers working in the rice paddies.

This cultural tour offers a close look at everyday village life, including visits to traditional home industries such as tofu and palm sugar production. You’ll also take a short walk through the village to see how locals live and work, passing rice fields, rubber trees, and cocoa plantations while enjoying the lush green surroundings. In addition, you’ll observe traditional handicrafts made by village women, including the making of atap roof thatching from palm leaves and tepas, a woven bamboo wall commonly used in Indonesian village houses. This experience gives you a truly authentic insight into traditional Indonesian culture.

During the tour, you’ll be offered a refreshing drink, such as freshly harvested coconut water or another local beverage.

On Fridays and Sundays, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the large local markets, where you can see piles of chilies, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, tofu, and a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Take your time to try or buy unique fresh fruits like dragon fruit, snake fruit, rambutan, or langsat directly from local vendors.

If you’d like to stop for lunch on the way back to Bukit Lawang, just let your guide know. Please note that lunch is not included in the tour price.

The tour usually ends around 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm, with your guide taking you back to your guesthouse. If you prefer to enjoy an authentic local lunch in the village (not included), your guide will be happy to recommend a place and take you there before returning to your accommodation.
